My latest Scaler project
« on: December 02, 2009, 04:57:06 PM »

Decided to get ambitious and hand build some parts rather than just buying everything for a project again. Project is far from finished, but hopefully will be done in time for the Scale Nat's in May.

Frame and running gear started out as an Axial SCX10 kit.
2 frames were spliced together to get the length needed for the 8th scale body. Suspension mounts and divorced motor mount were added after the splice was done.

Still along way to go on this one, but it's fun so far so  :)
Here's where it stands:

Frame ready for clean-up and paint:

Spare Tire Carrier pretty much finished:

Rear Trail Armor in the works - never doing this again once it's done either....

This one will run in the 1.9 scale class, the wheelbase is a little longer than your average 1.9, but 2.2's just look silly under this body IMO

Nice!  ;D

I noticed the modded DX3. How do you guys use the 3rd channel?

Winching  ;D

That's actually the gf's radio, I run a dx3r for all my crawler needs, though I'm tossing around the idea of building a pistol radio out of a dx6i to let me run my lights and multiple winches without having to relearn to drive with sticks.

Wow, that's quite a project. I've been inside of a DX6 and DX7 and those boards are really big for a pistol. I see lots of jumpers in your future  :o

I'm sure there's some info out there on the interweb. We're rarely the first to take on a project like that.

I'm crazy not stupid lol. On rccrawler there's a complete walk-through with pictures and part numbers for how to do it.

Requires some modding to the pistol case itself for the board and screen but other than that no more complicated than the other radio mods I've done over the years.

Nice...no custom EEPROM Programming or mini boards to deal with different potentiometers. Cuz that's just WAAAAYYY too much work for a frickin winch.  :P

like I said...I'm crazy not stupid 8)

Before I went to 2.4ghz I modded all my radios to change the function of the third channel, and added epa pots to all channels, so I know my way around the insides of a radio.

That radio has morning hair  :-X

I limit the 'allowed sites' to known common picture hosts. Hmmm...thanks for letting me know it's not working. I don't use PhotoBucket to host my pics.

Yeah it does turn into something of a rats nest, but pretty simple to do in the grand scheme of things.
