For those still unclear on dig, starting at 32 seconds in is a great visual of why you want to have to have it and how to use it

I think that's some of the best crawling footage I've seen. For me, it shows the exciting stuff and the advanced techniques the driver is using to tackle those obstacles. I really like the Comp 2.2 class...but around here something a little "sporty" might be more appropriate.

With an axial you can get a good inbetween crawler, very comp worthy, but not so specific that comps are the only use it has.

The losi runs a worm gear setup in the axles so it's very inefficient with it's power. As a result, you cant run it for hours at a time with a few friends like you can an axial that uses a traditional ring and pinion setup. There are also some durrability issues that losi is still working to correct on their crawler but I wont go there lol

the losi is a very good machine, but for my money I'd rather have something more flexible in its uses.

Is the AX-10 ARTR a wise choice for a guy like me? If so, what's a good esc/motor choice?

I would be a crawler noob with lots of tuning, building, and track driving experience.

Since you're not a newb to rc in general yes I think it would be a great choice for you.

It comes with a full aluminum suspension, straight axle adaptors for the rear end, and one of my favorite tires for this area.

For electronics:

Servo: The most torque you can afford (the jr 8711 is very popular) a hitec 645mg is aboutthe minimum you can get away with for a 2.2 crawler.

ESC: for just starting out I'd go with a novak rooster crawler - 2s lipo max, but it has zero reverse delay and a decent hold brake. Also it's fairly affordable around $120 or so with a motor I beleive.

External BEC: I'd go the castle creations one, as it's adjustable via the computer with castle link (I can program for you if you don't have the link).

Motor: 35t-55t brushed

Radio gear and batteries I beleive you said you already have.

If you'd prefer to get in a little cheaper (I havent done the math in awhile so I'm not sure what the difference ends up being to get you on the rocks) at the outset with upgrades later on, you could get the new RTC (not the older RTR stay away from that one).

It comes with some bottem shelf electronics, and a plastic suspension set up, but it does come ith axials new shocks so there's kind of a trade of there. Same good tires as on the ARTR
