Tmaxx 2.5
« on: December 18, 2009, 05:48:14 PM »

Hello all ,

I am in need of some help i wasent sure what section to post on so if i posted in the wrong section sorry about that .

Anyway .

what i did was ...

I bought a used .15 and used it for a while and dident like the lack of power . so i saw a great deal on ebay for a upgrade to the 2.5 and all the extras i can think of . even the converstion kit . anyway i put it all together . i worked with the guy i bought the new motor and all the gear to go with it about the motor . well after weeks of messing with it we found out i actually did a stupid thing . i put the starter motor wires backwards . so it was starting backwards . he said it wouldent hurt it unless i ran it and ran it and ran in and so on .

well we got that figured out cause it was sooo hard to start before and now it starts easy . but its way out of tune . i was wondering if there was anyone in port angeles to help me get this right in the ball park . if i can get it in the ball park i can get the rest .

ive had this all summer and now part of the winter .

im not a rich guy and i cant really aford to pay the place in pa the 30+ a hour for him to tune it unless he did it in one hour and i dont know if anyone can . i spent many hours trying to do it .
the guy i got it from i talked to him on the phone while he tuned it at his house herd it run and was like sold !
so i know its a good motor and also he gave me a new carb for it as well

so if anyone wants to help out that would be cool as all hell . i can give you something for your time .

Thanks for reading all this and have a great weekend .
hopefully someone will take pitty on me LOL

No worries at all man! Ask away.

Friendly help is the reason I created this place. I'd be happy to tune your motor. I've been waiting for warmer weather because I have a .28 engine to tune up too  :D The bitter cold is very hard on these engines.

Best bet is to bring it out to the track and tune it there. Be sure to bring an extra glow plug, charge up the glow ignitor and the receiver and radio batteries. Losing plugs is a common problem with those motors...a little too lean or a little too rich and they eat plugs.

PS.- Running backwards doesn't hurt a standard 2 stroke motor. You're safe =)

Awsome

Thanks for the quick reply .

well as i said in my other post its hard for us to get to sequim the band in the trans is messed up in 3rd gear so we got 1st and 2nd . and you see the rest in the other post .

but if we can get out that way sometime id love to come and have some fun . got like 2 tanks of gas left .

at some point i want to get the longer arms to make it like the revo . that will come after i get it tuned and running good first . i just want to play with it lol .

so if you guys come into pa sometime look me up . untill we get the trans fixed .

but if there is anything i can do to get a public track built count me in . this place needs one . they got a track for the motor bikes ... regular bikes . have a demo derby once a year .. have monster trucks come in . well they can alow us to have a track ! its not like we need tons of land or anything . oh forgot to add they can make a skate park that has big brother watching because i herd when i moved back that the kids started doing something they shouldent have been doing there and its not good .so they put up cameras and if that dont work they will shut it down . hey there we go lets use that as the track lol just kidding .

Thought I should add that running backwards on accident won't kill it, but if you get on it you can cause some damage.

Also, Tim can definitely tune your engine in an hour. He's a professional and that's what he does. I'd be glad to help also. Sounds like your real car's trans is a little more important than your toy truck though  ::)

Hello Everyone ,

Sorry its been so long . been working my butt off so not much time to even relax ..

So now things are getting nicer and better outside and i did see the update about the track idea and put in my vote , well onto the tmaxx .. well i got it tuned perty good before 1 thing went bad .... the starter on the motor side . well the little motor is fine . its the inside thats the issue . the one way gear thing is not grabbing worth #!%$ and so ive got to get a new one of them . and or the entire thing . not sure yet till i get a little more time to get it off and get to lookin at it .

but boy did it feel good to run it for 15-20 min and have a little fun with it .

i do have a question
im not positive yet if it is a hard start issue or just that grabber gear . but it sure took a long time to start it before . so after i get the item fixed ill be for sure knowing its a hard start or not . but just incase if it is a hard start what would need to be done so it starts up faster ?

Thanks guys . sorry havent been more active .
Take care and have a great weekend

Glad to see you stopping in!

If the starter spins and its not turning over the motor, then replace the one-way bearing. Hard starting could be lots of things. Try a few of them in this order:
  • replace one-way
  • replace glow plug
  • use a battery-powered glow heater instead of the blue wire
  • get new or better nitro (contact me for a gallon of Torco 30%)
  • check your compression and make sure the motor is still good

Sounds like it's been on a shelf for awhile. I wouldn't worry too much. They 'gunk up' a bit when you don't use em. Hope something there helps.  :D
